SureWest’s – Top 15 Rankings - Baseball

1. Davis (20-6)

Can Davis win it's first section championship since 2004?
2. Pleasant Grove (22-5)

An impressive regular season, including a Delta River League title, has Eagles fans hoping for its first ever appearance in a section baseball title game.
3. Jesuit (20-7)

Our previous No. 1, but this is certainly as good as any in Division I.
4. Elk Grove (19-7)

The Thunder Herd has the offense, but can the pitching be just as good?
5. Granite Bay (20-6)

Sierra Foothill League champs are legit, and a heavy favorite to take the D-II section title thanks to consistent play all season long.
6. Oak Ridge (20-7)

Don't be fooled by the No. 6 ranking. The Trojans are very, very good and would surprise no one if they captured a D-I section title.
7. Franklin (17-9)

Wildcats would take first place in most leagues, but third place in the Delta Valley is nothing to be ashamed of. Problem for Franklin is that the Division I bracket is just too loaded.
8. Bella Vista (20-6)

The Capital Valley champs split games with Oakmont and Del Campo to finish the season, but this team has a great chance to make it to the Division II championship.
9. Woodcreek (20-6)

A terrific season for Woodcreek, despite a third place finish in the Sierra Foothill League. While we don't predict that Woodcreek will win the championship, it wouldn't surprise us if they did.
10. Rocklin (16-10)

A junior-heavy roster will look to make a run at a D-II title, but definitely not a favorite to win.
11. Yuba City (21-6)

Winners of 12 straight, Yuba City looks ready to do what they do best which is win section championships......watch out Division III.
12. Oakmont (18-8)

A second place finish in the Capital Valley League, and a solid overall season for the Vikings, but no way they make it to the D-II championship with Granite Bay on the same side of the bracket.
13. Placer (18-7)

A great run in the final week gives the Hillmen a PVL title, but what this team has is pitching.
14. Vista Del Lago (19-8)

Winners of 11 straight games to finish the season, including two wins over league champ El Dorado. Was No. 14 last week and will remain in that spot.
15 - 20 (click here)

Lots of debate over which team should be No. 15, but we like Capital League champ El Camino. The Eagles were our No. 15 team previously, and finished the season with seven straight wins.

15. El Camino (17-10) - Capital League champ

16. Valley Christian (19-6) - Sac Metro League champ

17. El Dorado (24-2-1) - Sierra Valley League champ

18. Antelope (19-6)

19. River Valley (20-7)

20. Pioneer (15-12)

OTHERS: Capital Christian (GEL champs), Bradshaw Christian (Sierra Delta champs), McClatchy (Metro League champs)

SureWest’s – Top 15 Rankings - Softball

1. Del Oro (19-4-2)

Champions of the best league (SFL) in the area, but can the Golden Eagles win it all after coming so close in recent years (lost in title game in 2009, 2011).

Del Oro has seven section titles in softball, but none since 2002.
2. Woodcreek (21-4)

The Timberwolves have either been No. 1 or No. 2 all season long, but can they get out of a tough side of the D-II bracket that also has defending champ Casa Roble and a really good Roseville team?
3. Roseville (17-7)

How good is the Sierra Foothill League? Well, Roseville took third place in the SFL and is still ranked No. 3.
4. Casa Roble (16-4)

We can hear it now, "What!!! We are defending D-II champs, won our league title, and we are ranked No. 4?!"

Yes, but you have only played one of our Top 3 teams and that was a 6-2 loss to Del Oro. However, if you win the D-II title again, we wouldn't be surprised because our Top 4 teams are about as even as it gets.
5. Ponderosa (17-7)

The Bruins took first in the Delta River League, and that's impressive, but can the Bruins win the D-I championship? Seems to be a wide open bracket this year.
6. Pleasant Grove (17-9)

We had the Eagles ranked anywhere from No. 12 - No. 15 for most of the season, then two weeks ago Pleasant Grove went on a tear. How good is this team? We'll soon find out.
7. Bear River (16-5-2)

We had the Bruins at No. 8, but with St. Francis and Sheldon finishing on a sour note the Bruins moved up a spot.

Bear River has loads of talent, should be the favorite to win the D-III championship, and we know they would love to send long time head coach Duane Zauner into retirement on a winning note.
8. Sheldon (15-9)

Call us "blind", "dumb", or "living in the past", but despite Sheldon's struggles this season we have a hard time not seeing this talented team make a run for another D-I championship.
9. St. Francis (15-9-1)

Yes, we know they finished in fourth in the DRL and didn't make the playoffs. We get that. However, rankings are not about standings or who makes the playoffs. St. Francis is better than the teams ranked from No. 10 - No. 15. Period.
10. Whitney (17-9)

Capital League champs should be challenging again for a D-III title, after losing to Rodriguez in last year's title game.
11. Vista Del Lago (18-4)

Finished the season with nine straight wins and Sierra Valley champs. How great would it be to see the Eagles play Cosumnes Oaks in the D-IV section championship? Could happen!
12. Cosumnes Oaks (19-6-1)

The Wolfpack finished the season with seven straight wins, but a second place finish in the Sierra Valley Conference to Vista Del Lago.
13. Pioneer (16-3-1)

Tri-County champs have talent and a league title, and they finally make it in to our Top 15 as the regular season comes to a close.
14. Del Campo (13-7-1)

The Cougars lost their best player, Hannah Howell, to injury, and seemed to sputter down the stretch this season. It will be an uphill climb in the playoffs Del Campo.

Our No. 15 team is Placer, thanks to an impressive run in the final weeks, that include a win over No. 7 Bear River.

16. Davis (19-5) - DVL champs with 8 straight wins to finish season

17. Elk Grove (16-5-1) - Second place in DVL

18. Rosemont (19-7) - Metro champs

19. Christian Brothers (19-6-1) - Third place in Capital Valley

20. El Camino (15-9-2) - Second place in Capital
