With National Letter of Intent signing day set for Wednesday, Grant High football star and the top ranked safety in the country, Shaq Thompson (6'3", 230-pounds), decided to make his college selection public tonight (10:05pm) on Twitter.

In just a few words Thompson tweeted, "committed to the UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON".

With social media all the rage these days, the news of Thompson selecting Washington is already making its way around the internet in the speed of light.

Thompson had originally selected Cal back back on January 7 at the U.S. Army All-American game, but after Cal assistant coach Tosh Lupoi left the Golden Bears two weeks ago for an assistant coaching gig with the University of Washington, things changed.

The Sacramento Bee's Joe Davidson reports that Thompson made an unofficial visit to Washington over the weekend and that trip, his second to the school, essentially sealed the decision for Thompson.

Grant High School will hold it's National Letter of Intent signing event Wednesday at 8:00am. SureWest Sports will have complete coverage of the event.
