Front Page Sports’ Mike Finnerty understands the need for providing daily youth and high school sports news coverage to the greater Sacramento community, and doing it with new and cutting edge ideas.

History

In August, 2006, Mike started his company, Front Page Media (www.frontpagemediaonline.com). Then, on October 14, 2006, Mike met with Jamal Ogans of Higher Interactive and the two created and launched the area’s first daily online news source for youth and high school sports news, the “Placer County Sports Page” (www.placersports.com).

Expansion

After a successful run in Placer County, Mike saw the need to expand his county sports page format to the greater Sacramento region. In April, 2007, Mike added two more county websites to include the Sacramento County Sports Page and the El Dorado County Sports Page.

During the existence of the Placer County Sports Page, Mike received significant business and writing contributions from Sports Editor Kurt Johnson, before Kurt took a position as the Senior Sports Editor for the Press Tribune, Rocklin Herald, and Lincoln News Messenger in September, 2008.

Expansion into the greater Sacramento region brought an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the community, but the community’s desire to have just one website for all three counties signaled to Mike that one final change would need to be made. So finally, in October, 2008, Mike one final change and launched what is now Front Page Sports (www.frontpagesportsonline.com).

Partnership

In February, 2009, Mike partnered with SureWest Communications to create a new and unique 30-minute weekly youth and high school sports show titled the “SureWest Sports Show”.

The SureWest Spots Show currently airs on SureWest cable channel 702, but can also be seen online on SureWestSports.com. The show features Mike as the host and includes a variety of highlights, interviews with players and coaches, a trivia question, local sports writers as guests contributors to the show, and honors the top boy’s and girl’s athletes with a Players of the Week feature. Co-produced and edited by Front Page Media's Kevin Melin, the SureWest Sports Show brings a much needed focus on sporting events and achievements within the local communities of the Greater Sacramento region. To make the show different than other shows seen in the area, the show also includes coverage of youth sports.

About Mike

In addition to owning and operating Front Page Media, as well as his duties as Editor-in-Chief and President of Front Page Sports and host of the SureWest Sports Show, Mike also provides the sports sections for such new local newspapers as The Mercury (Placer County), Carmichael Times, and the American River Messenger.

Mike was a contributor to Inside Roseville magazine, and in April, 2007, and was featured on CBS13’s “The Sports Show”.

A resident of the greater Sacramento region for 30 years, Mike has extensive knowledge and understanding of the community he covers, and served as a youth coach and volunteer for over eight years.

Married to his wife Carol since 1989, the couple lives in Roseville with their three kids: Ryan (19), Haylee (15), and Connor (6).

In his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
